10 Facts about CBD

Happy Hemp Day!

Today I wanted to share with you a few commonly asked questions about CBD, to help smash the stigma and educate you all as much as I can, keeping all the answers short and sweet for you…

• What is CBD?

CBD is, basically, a short form of cannabidiol, one of the components of the cannabis plant that can act on the cannabinoid receptors that usually affects the whole body system. It’s a non-intoxicating component that’s the second most abundant compound in a cannabis plant.

• Will I Get High If I Use CBD?

No! CBD is a product of hemp, which has just about 0.2% (maximum) of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – a cannabis plant component that can bring a psychoactive effect. In fact, CBD usually decreases THC’s psychoactive effects if you take them together.

• What’s the Difference Between Marijuana and Hemp?

Though both marijuana and hemp are off springs of cannabis, the mother plant, they have different cultivation modes, chemical properties, and usage. For instance, marijuana has a high THC concentration than hemp, which has about 0.2% THC concentration.

• Is CBD Legal?

In a word, yes! But it is classed as a food supplement, not a medicine, so no medical claims can be made about CBD.

• What is the Difference Between Isolate and Full Spectrum CBD?

CBD isolate consists of exclusively CBD, while full-spectrum CBD consists of a variety of cannabinoids. Full-spectrum CBD is the most effective CBD available – it contains other cannabinoids, including THC, to bring out the “entourage effect.”

• Will CBD Cause Me to Fail a Drug Test?

Well, the answer to this is Yes and No. As explained above about isolate and full spectrum CBD, if you use full spectrum CBD, especially if you take it daily, there’s a high probability that it can build up and you could trigger a positive test result. On the other hand, you could still use CBD regularly and yet pass the drug test – if you’re an athlete and with a very lean body. Your body composition and metabolism play a major part when it comes to CBD and passing a drug test. Therefore, if you’re overweight and sedentary, you have a higher chance of failing a drug test for THC.

• Can CBD Interact With My Medications?

Unfortunately, Yes. According to the Project CBD Website, CBD can either increase or reduce the effects of other drugs by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 enzyme, an enzyme responsible for the metabolization of many drugs. It’s essential that you consult your physician while taking CBD to monitor your blood levels and advise you on the necessary steps to take.

• How Do I Administer CBD?

CBD can be ingested in quite a few ways; with a vaporizer having been proven to give the most efficient results. Other common modes of ingestion include oral ingestion (which involves taking CBD in the form of a tincture or capsules) and topical use (addition of CBD oil in lotions and ointments).

• How Long Will I Wait For the Results?

There’s no typical time period of when you’ll feel the effects of CBD. Your tolerance and body metabolism are the major factors that usually affect the time it will take for CBD to work. Faster metabolism and lower tolerance mean little time it takes to feel the CBD effects. The mode of ingestion also affects the time it takes to feel the effects; vaporized CBD takes far less time than with topical ointments/lotions.

• How Long Will CBD Stay in My System?

According to various studies, moderate use of CBD takes just about a week, before being flushed out of your body. However, chronic use and in large doses could extend the amount of time it takes for your body to get rid of it, usually to about 10 days.
